Top reasons to buy and wear vintage

For some,  vintage is nothing more than unwanted, second hand clothes but here at Colour Me Vintage it is a way of life! Here are our top 5 reasons to buy and wear more vintage.

1) Truly unique

It's probably safe to say that vintage lovers are fashionistas who long to be set apart from other fashion lovers. We have all experienced that horrifying moment when we have spent hours getting ready for a night out only to find a handful of girls wearing exactly the same outfit!

This happened at my graduation ball back in 2008! I'd spent a small fortune on a gorgeous electric blue Karen Millen dress which crippled me financially for months! I didn't care because I absolutely loved the dress but standing in the que for the toilets next to a fellow graduate wearing the exact same outfit definetly killed my buzz.

The chances of this mortifying event (and let's face it, a major first world problem) from happening is to buy vintage. Yes, it's true that there is probably the same dress floating around out there somewhere but what you can't see won't hurt you!

2) Enviornmentally friendly

The world's current enviornmetal situation is defiently hard to ignore. Even the least scientific minded amoung us, we are all aware of the issues of climate change, pollution, litter, landfill sites and so on. Buying vintage is an enviornmentally friendly way to get our fashion kicks without while helping enviornment.

It is estimated that £140m worth of clothing in the UK alone goes to landfill each year while 30% of our wardrobes are made up of high street pieces that we will never wear and eventually send to landfill.

Buying carefully selected unique vintage pieces that we truly love is the ultimate good deed for any fashionista.

3) Superior quality

It's no exaggeration that vintage clothing is of far better quality than mass produced items sold on the high street today. British manufacturing during the early to mid 20th Century is known for it's high quality clothing that was made to last. Let's face it- anything that was made 30 years ago and is still in mint condition beats any Primark piece.

4) A piece of history

There is something fasincating about owning a piece of vintage because it's part of an unknown history. That cute 60's smock top may have been part of a Woodstock weekend or an Anti War Protest rather than massed produced in a Bangladesh sweat shop.

5) Supprting small businesses

When you buy vintage you're normally buying from a small independant business. This gives the economy a boost and puts a smile on a small business owner's face. Owners of independant labels put their heart and sole into their work meaning you'll be buying into someone's passion and dreams as well as a gorgeous, uniue piece of history.

Whether you love, hate or are still a little unsure about buying and wearing vintage, we'd love to hear what you think.

Lots os love,

Vintage Loving

Hello, vintage lovers and welcome to our brand spanking new blog! Colour Me Vintage started in Spring 2014 and we thought it was about time we fully thrust ourselves into the 21st Century and start blogging (regularly). So we should probably tell you lovely people a little about ourselves......

Colour Me Vintage was established by Leyla Keskin: a girl with a big dream to transform the way we shop! After years of unsatisfying high street shopping and countless 'I have nothing to wear days',  vintage became an obsession after her grandmother handed down her silver fox faux fur coat. Owning a piece of vintage became more than wearing a truly unique piece but also about the history, experiences and memories that a simple item of clothing has.

Coming from a family of migrant East End clothing manufacturers and market traders, it was only natural to turn a love for vintage into her bread and butter. Colour Me Vintage was established in Spring 2014 trading at vintage fairs in the North of England and went live on ASOS Marketplace  in Summer 2014.

Colour Me Vintage specialises in trend inspired genuine and reworked vintage pieces andvintage inspired handmade clothing to girls who want a little something different for their wardrobes. After a very exciting, busy first fews year we are still dreaming about transforming the fashion world with our unique, ethical and enviornmentally friendly collections.

Whether you're a 90's grunge girl, 50's pin up or 70's boho babe, we have everything you need to create your perfect unique look. Follow our blog, on Instagram and Facebook for updates, style tips, discounts and offers.

Bye bye for now, vintage lovers.

Lots of love,
